Officer Mark Mitzel - Waco P.D. Coordinator
Welcome to the Waco Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (CPAAA) web site!! My name is Mark Mitzel and I have had the pleasure of serving as the Department's Coordinator for the Citizens Police Academy and as liaison with the Alumni Association since February 2002. Our Citizens Police Academy began holding classes in 1991, and was followed shortly by the formulation of the Alumni Association.

The Alumni Association members volunteer over 2000 hours each year assisting the Waco Police Department with community service programs, internal projects and still find time to hold fund raising programs to purchase equipment and provide training to the Department it would not otherwise receive. Some of the programs the CPAAA has been involved with include Project Childsafe, Police Memorial Run and Banquet, 4th of July Celebration, National Night Out, Cruise fest USA, police recruit testing and many more. They have raised money for the purchase of a VHF/UHF radio for the Department's mobile command post van, a video camera, and bought several Safe-shot firing barrels for use in the Department's firearms during training exercises. The CPAAA also raises money for and sponsors the Department's Police Trader card program. Training programs have included classes on such topics as Criminal Profiling. The CPAAA also coordinated and hosted the State Citizens Police Academy Alumni convention in 1998.

We invite you to attend one of our CPA classes and join a group of citizens who put their commitment to building a better community into involvement and action.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Waco Citizens Police Academy Association is to support officer and community safety by promoting educational and life preserving programs. We will encourage and promote the concept of community policing by giving the citizens an opportunity to better understand the function of the Waco Police Department. Our members will be involved with our police department in the effort to "Bridge the Gap" between the community and the police.
