Join The Waco Citizens Police Academy
An educational program that informs the community about our Police Department. The program gives an internal look at the philosophy and operations of the Waco Police Department
The Citizens Police Academy is an innovative educational program designed to inform the community of the internal operations, functions, structure and philosophy of the Waco Police Department. Students are expected to share this realistic view of the department with other citizens to improve the efficiency of our Law Enforcement organizations. This is done through shared responsibilities and resources. Graduates are not Police Officers, but well informed and involved citizens.

Deadline for the next Citizens Police Academy (CPA) is August 15, 2003!!
The Citizens Police Academy is held in the Spring and the Fall. The class meets every Thursday for 10-12 weeks. Classes start at 7:00 PM and end at 9:30 PM. The academy covers a wide variety of topics, such as Criminal Investigations, Patrol Operations, Communications, Crime Prevention, Courts and their functions, Defensive Tactics and Firearms Training. Instruction of these and other topics consist of lectures, demonstrations, tours and hands-on activities. The school requires a substantial commitment from the students, but the benefits received make the effort worth while. There is no cost for the school.

Topics Covered
A great veriety of topics are included in the Citizens Police Academy. Some of the topics covered are: Community Policing, Patrol Operations, all aspects of Criminal Investigations, Recruiting of Police Officers, Crime Statistics, Jail Operations, Drug Problems, Courts and their functions, Police Officers Training, Firearms Training, Defense Tactics, and others. Students will participate in "Hands-on" activities and the "Ride-Along" program.

Selection for each academy will be made according to the number of students and classroom availability.

The Benefits
Each graduate will join a growing list of citizens who are concerned about problems facing our community. Students become allies with the police and other graduates of all Citizens Police Academies to combat the crime and drug problems that plague our ity. Each graduate gains new friends and new resources to help them solve our neighborhood problems. The students will feel a sense of accomplishment knowing that they are trying to do something to make a difference.
