Waco Citizens Police Academy
The Waco Citizens Police Academy graduated the first class November 7, 1991. Since that time the Waco Police Department has conducted two classes per year, one in the spring and one in the fall. These graduates have learned about all aspects of police work. They have a much better understanding of what the police department does and does not do. They also have seen police work from the officer's point of view and have a better understanding why they use some of the procedures they use. During the course the people got to see a S.W.A.T. team demonstration, the use of our K-9 unit. They also learned about traffic stops and searching buildings, then they actually get to put the techniques to use in an exercise. The graduates also have a better idea of how to be a better witness and of how to report crime in their own areas. They now have the opportunity to join the Waco Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association. There have been approximately 350 to 400 people go through the Citizens Police Academy.

Our Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association
The Waco Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association is made up of people that have graduated from the Citizens Police Academy. The Waco Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association was established in December 1992. The Waco Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association supports the police department by continuing the education of the citizens on policing and related matters. We also foster a better understanding of the police department in our community. The mission of the Waco Citizen's Police Academy Alumni Association is to support officer and community safety by promoting educational and life preserving programs. We will encourage and promote the concept of community policing by giving the citizens an opportunity to better understand the function of the Waco Police Department. Our members will be significantly involved with our police department in the effort to "Bridge the Gap" between the community and the police. We are a 501C.3 non-profit organization. The president of the Waco Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association is Terry Williams.
